  • What is therapy?


Therapy is when you meet when a mental health professional to help you address and resolve problems or concerns that you may be facing in a safe, non judge mental and confidential space. Therapy seeks to equip you with skills and mechanisms to address self destructive behaviours, relationship problems, life challenges and more.



  • How do I know if I need therapy?



Oftentimes, life presents us with challenging situations, and sometimes we do not know how to deal with these. This is when seeking out extra, professional support in the form of therapy is beneficial. 



Therapy also offers an opportunity to develop greater self awareness and equips you with skills.  Thus, if life feels too overwhelming, if you require a different perspective, need improved self worth, self esteem, facing work or personal challenges, facing relationship problems or you are in search of self growth and more, therapy is for you 



Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and gives you the tools needed to avoid triggers, stop self destructive and damaging behaviour and overcome challenges.  



  • How often should I attend a therapy session?



Attending therapy is voluntary and thus it is up to you to decide how often you would like to attend. 



Therapy however is progressive and consistent implementation of skills learned is needed. I am therefore of the opinion that for therapy to be most effective, sessions should be scheduled weekly or even every second week. 



It is important to understand that you will get more results from therapy if you actively participate in the process. 



  • What is the duration of a therapy session?



Therapy sessions may vary depending on a number of variables such as number of people in the session and so forth. Individual and couple sessions range between 45 min to an hour, whereas family or group sessions may be more than an hour.




  • What can I expect to happen in the therapy session? 



Therapy is different for everyone as each person would have a different issue to address. It may also be either short term or longer term depending on the issue.



During the therapy session, the therapist creates a safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment where you can share your problem. The therapist remains impartial and provides guidance, containment, support and imparts knowledge, skill and tools to help you address the problem or challenge
